80,000 People In Seattle Couldn’t Pay Their Rent During The Pandemic, Did You Collect Your Rent Smoothly?

The eviction moratoriums associated with the pandemic is set to expire in Washington State and several individual cities at the end of June, with many predicting tens of thousands of people will be evicted from their rental properties.

Seattle groups are concerned about the “tsunami of evictions” that will follow the expiration of the state moratorium!

U.S. Census survey data cited between April 28 and May 10 shows that about 82,500 people in the greater Seattle area are currently behind on their rent.

King County began accepting applications for the Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance Program in mid-May. In order to be qualified, tenants need to be renting a residence within King County, have a household income at or below 50% of the area median income, and be able to demonstrate that “they are experiencing financial hardship” due to pandemic or that they are “at risk of experiencing homelessness.”
